Russians evacuated Dvinsk.  

On Land

Eastern Front

Russians evacuated Dvinsk. For the Russian Army Dvinsk was like Verdun to the French. Strategically placed on the route to St. Petersburg it was defended vigoursly, though eventually lost.

Western Front

Germans east of Warsaw took junction of Ostrolenka-Petrograd-Warsaw railways.

Germans repulsed at Marie-Thérèse and La Fontaine-aux-Charmes (Argonne).

At Sea 

British armed trawler G and E sank UB4 near Smith’s Knoll Spar Buoy.

Italian submarines sank Austrian U12.

In the Air

Zeppelin XII raided Bialystock
